Humanistic, which can also be known as humanism and humanist, are terms in psychology of an approach that studies the person as a whole, and the uniqueness of each. By looking at human behavior through the eyes of the observer as well as the person doing the behaving, humanistic psychologists can study and understand the differences in each person. Humanistic psychology was developed as a rebellion against some psychologist who studied behaviorism because limitations were seen in the theories that behaviorist and psychodynamic psychologist were studying.
Often called the "third force" humanistic psychology also known as phenomenological is the way personality is studied from the individual's subjective experience through their point of view.
